Today we're reporting on a growing problem among food bloggers looking to boost Google traffic in the short term: over-optimizing for related queries and fan-out queries.
A big driver behind overusing related and fan-out queries is the push to get cited in AI answers and summaries.
But trying to make a recipe relevant for every related search can backfire. Every extra topic or variation nudges the recipe away from its primary focus.
This gradual loss of focus in a post is called semantic drift.
And once it starts happening, a recipe becomes less and less relevant for the very search and reader it’s right for.
